  I've never posted "my story" in my profile, but in brief...

  The blood issue came up when my father was ill. When I told the doctor we could take "albumin", a fraction, he ask, "I thought you couldn't take blood?" My reply was I couldn't explain it, but I knew we could, and provided WT articles provided by the local elders. It really began to bother me, that I could be swayed so easily, just because the WT gave permission.

  The "mediator" issue was huge to me. When my husband said I didn't have a mediator, I laughed and said that was just "apostate" talk. He gave me the WT information, and I checked it on my cdrom. Boy was I shocked! I spent several hours pouring over all the material and, sure enough, they teach Jesus isn't our mediator, but we can benefit via the "faithful and discreet slave".

  When I found out there was so much deceit regarding the date 607bc, I spent hours and hours researching that subject, because the very foundation of the Watchtower rests on that date.

  After that, I began my long journey out. We read Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom, both by Ray Franz. My eyes were opened to finally begin reading the Bible with my blinders off, and I found true freedom in Christ!

  I never understood how we would ask others to examine their religion, and be so afraid to question our own. The truth will always be the truth, no matter how tough the questions! Hope others out there take the time to check things out.

  also, how are the kids handleing the holiday thing....for real....and do you really feel that is what you believe in, it just worries me......i havent said anything cuz its your choice, it is just that i wish you would come back.....move to omaha, and get into a diff congre, they would embrace you, they really would, .........heck, they embraced me after all the crap i did and fell and got back up.......i do see the good in you........ .

  It's true, you could go to another congregation, and they would probably "embrace" you, but as soon as you have any serious questions, you'd get a cold shoulder from most. That's what I've found so comforting on JWD, most have been in the same situation, and made it to the "other side" intact.

  Is depression unique to exjw's? Is it religion in general that causes it?

  i have noticed a large number of topics are about depression, some of mine included.. do you think that having been in the borg and losing lifelong friends and family because you no longer buy into their interpretation, is unique to jw's or do most other religions play these mind games?.

  We have discussed the subject of depression just recently, but as to within JW's. As a JW, the only hope is for the "new system", and everything in this system stinks. There is nothing good anywhere but within the organization. Satan is trying to "devour" you around every turn. It's no wonder so many JW's are on meds. I recall one elder telling us he forgot his "prozac" one time, and nearly every sister in the cargroup offered him one of hers. I don't think it is just among JW's, but I do think it is a problem. Also, the fact that so many downtrodden, lonely people are drawn to the paradise hope, just around the corner, could contribute.

  Among those who have finally left the WT, I do think all go through a certain amount of depression, for the reasons you stated. I think most of us are angry when first finding out how deceived we were. I also think it is important to do research, to come to grips with various issues, and resolve them in our minds. I think many "throw the baby out with the bathwater", thinking everything spiritual is a lie.

  Personally, I've gained great comfort from private Bible reading, from various translations, and it's really answered many questions.

  I sent out Chrismas cards this week, for the first time in 59 years! Seems funny to say "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year", and not feel guilty! Let freedom ring!!!!!

  jws who think it's fantastic that jeh is providing this new light all the time, i say about the rev book amongst other things and they just think it's a sign they are in the right religon coz '''what other religon would admit it's faults?

  Haven't read all of the replys, so sorry if I repeat someone else's thoughts.

  First, the context of Proverbs 4:18 ... if you read the complete context, it is NOTHING about truth changing and getting more and more perfect.

  Second, where does the new light come from? If it does indeed come from Jehovah, how is that different than being inspired? My Websters dictionary says inspiration is to communicate ideas from a supernatura source. If not from Jehovah, then from whom? If from Jehovah, it must be "inspired", yet they claim they are not inspired, otherwise, there would be no need of changes.

  Third, why do we ask others to check what they believe, yet are so unwilling to really check deeply what JW's believe? It's ok to question, if "sincere" before one's baptism, but not ok after!

  Just a few thoughts, hope they help.

  Have been off the board for awhile now and didn't know you were ill. Everyone enjoys your posts. I think the "Comments You Will Not Hear" were some of the first things we'd print and read together. It was a great help. Glad you are up and around again. Sounds like you may live in part of the country that has definite seasons, as we do. Have a foot of snow on the ground now...burrrr! Thanks for all your work. It has helped many to find their bearings.

  i just scored a pair of ticket to a josh groban concert in nc this spring.

  she is a major fan of this guy and i have to admit the dude can sing.

  we went to one of his concert a couple of year ago and it was awesome.

  Little children deserve to die at Armageddon

  for the life of me, i cannot work this one out.

  it disturbed me when i was a jw and it now just makes me plain angry.. here are some comments from ministerial servants & elders on this subject, which i heard when i was in:.

  "you know, a while ago, people used to object to the idea of children dying at armageddon but nowadays there is a spirit in kids (massive generalisation), which just seems to make them fit for destruction.

  I always felt uncomfortable with this subject. I believed (somewhat) that children would die if their parents didn't listen to JW's. In my heart I don't think I really felt that way. I always said I thought Jehovah would consider the elderly, those in institutions, those in foreign countries that would never have a chance to hear and make a decision to serve as a JW or not.

  We see a good deed written in the newspaper now days and jokingly say, "isn't it sad their going to die at Armageddon", because at one time that's what we would think. To think Jehovah would overlook all the good in people, when he so easily will forgive so much!

  I'm so glad we are finally leaving the judging up to Jehovah, and not judging for ourselves.

  My cousins leukemia and treatment.

  ok, tonight i found out a family secret that only a few knew.

  i had told my mom how i felt about the jw stance on blood, and mentioned how angry i was not knowing if my cousin could have been saved had he gotten a blood transfusion.

  she finally told me tonight, when we were going to a seminar about lung cancer, that my cousin had indeed gotten a blood transfusion!

  I lost my dad over the blood issue too! They tried albumin, after I overheard the doctors saying maybe that would work. I told them that would be ok, but was really to late. The doctors sure questioned me about this, as they told me albumin was blood, and they thought JW's didn't take blood. That was my first real question regarding the blood issue.

  Luke 6:38 --- What is the JW way of giving in your opinion...

  luke 6:38: give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.

  fieldservice or a bible study...or maybe they (in my past experience) give to a selected candidate as long as that person comes to the hall on a regular.

  when do they actually give like normal people give.

  We always told our kids they wouldn't have to wait for a birthday or Christmas to get gifts like those of the "world", and on Christmas, always gave them a few gifts the next day or so, so they could go to school and not feel left out! SO HYPOCRITICAL!!!

  As for other kinds of giving...unless it was within the org, which we did do for those in need...if it was to the "world" we did little. Kind of like the parable of walking on the other side of the road.

  I feel great NOW, giving whenever I can. If I see a youth trying to make his/her way to a sports whatever, I'll give a couple dollars. When charities ask for money, I pick and choose of course, but will help out here too. I contribute to the "white cane", and even when our local VFW has a table set in the grocery, to aid the locals, I give. As a JW, I was so afraid of supporting something of Bab the Great, or something political, never using my conscience, but concerned what others might say or think.

  This freedom is wonderful!
